Emotional Literacy Support

We are delighted to announce that Pond Meadow is the first School in Surrey to complete ELSA training specifically for students with complex needs. This achievement reflects our commitment to providing exceptional emotional support and ensuring that all our students receive the care and attention they deserve.
ELSA stands for Emotional Literacy Support Assistant. It’s a specialized program designed to support students' emotional well-being, particularly those who may be facing emotional or regulation challenges. ELSA-trained staff work with students on a one-to-one or small group basis, helping them develop emotional literacy skills, such as recognizing and managing emotions, building resilience, and improving social skills. The goal is to enhance students' mental health and overall well-being, supporting them to succeed both academically and personally.
Our school is deeply committed to fostering the emotional well-being of our students. These sessions create a safe and nurturing environment where students can express themselves, develop coping skills, and build emotional resilience. We are proud to be a part of a community of staff trained to support mental health and well-being and identify appropriate support
What we offer?
We offer ELSA support in a dedicated room, with staff who have completed specialized ELSA training for students with complex needs. The support is provided through an agreed program, tailored to meet the individual needs of each student.
Who we offer this to?
We have a clear and specific criteria for selecting students who qualify for ELSA support, ensuring that the process is fair and transparent. The criteria will be reviewed termly to ensure that we’re meeting the evolving needs of our students. Those selected will be offered a set number of sessions, tailored to provide the appropriate support, and we will make every effort to ensure this process is as equitable as possible for all students involved.
