Governing Body

 

The Governors of Pond Meadow play a crucial role in overseeing the quality provided by the school and its long-term direction. The Governing body has four sub-committees: Chairs, Building and Sites, Children and Learning, and Finance and Staffing. The sub-committees  and Full Governing Body meet at least three times per year.

Mrs Margaret Taylor (Chair) - Community Governor

Appointed: 1st November 2014

Finance and Staffing

Margaret holds secretarial and journalism diplomas. She is an events organiser for corporate entertaining, and organises Sport for All Day. Margaret set up a registered medical charity in 1997 and raised over a million pounds; she is a lay member of a QOF team assessing GP surgeries for the NHS. Margaret is married to Frank and lives in Merrow. She has two children both consultants, one at Kings College and Guys Hospitals and the other at Frimley Park Hospital, and three grandchildren.

 

Mr Ronnie Martin - Community Governor

Appointed:1st November 2014

Committees: Finance and Staffing

Ronnie is a Community Governor living in Cranleigh. He is a member of Finance and Staffing Sub Committee and Chair/Trustee of our Charity D.P.M. A retired Chartered Insurer, Ronnie now works as a part time Examinations Invigilator and volunteer with Young Enterprise. Ronnie enjoys long distance running, playing golf and spending time in France.

 

Mr Matthew Gambold - Community Governor

Appointed: 1st November 2014

Matthew qualified as a chartered accountant in 2003 and brings extensive technical and commercial financial experience to the governing body. He relocated from London to Guildford in 2011 and, keen to make a contribution to his local community, joined Pond Meadow as a governor shortly afterwards. He currently runs his own firm of accountants, with offices in central London and Guildford, dealing exclusively with small to medium sized businesses and charities.

 

Lady Elizabeth Toulson - Community Governor

With a legal training, Lizzie has worked nationally and locally for the voluntary sector. Her service has included many years as Chairman of the Royal Voluntary Service, trusteeship with the Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation for the Disabled at Leatherhead and the Chairmanship of the Children’s Society. She still works regularly for the Citizen Advice Bureaux in Surrey. Lizzie is also a Governor of Charterhouse School and Chairman of the Guildford Cathedral Council.

 

Mr Steve Mundy - Community Governor

Steve Mundy has lived in Guildford since 1987 and was born in Surrey. He is passionate about education, having learnt the value and challenges of education from both grandmothers, his mother and wife, who all have been teachers. Steve has three children, who all attended George Abbot School. Steve holds a degree in Economics from the University of London, a Diploma in Accounting and Finance and is a Chartered Surveyor. Steve has spent 36 years in the property sector, managing most aspects of buildings, finance and people. Steve is a Community Governor sitting on the Building and Sites and Finance Committees, supporting the great work of the Staff at Pond Meadow.

 

Mrs Caitriona Walsh - Community Governor

Caitriona is a Community Governor, living in Guildford since 2003.  Qualified as a Chartered Accountant, she has many years experience in budgeting, planning and product development in the Telecoms sector.  Now with a school age child, Caitriona has switched to working in the Education sector and is now a member of the Finance Team in a local independent school.

Having previously worked as Finance Manager at Pond Meadow School for several years, she is keen to continue to support and contribute to the school having seen, first hand, its excellent work.

 

Mr David Monk - Staff Governor

 David has been Headteacher at Pond Meadow School since September 1997 and has seen the school through many changes and developments over the years. He has an extensive background in Special Educational Needs working as Deputy in an all-age 'campus' provision and in a residential school for pupils with ASD before coming to Pond Meadow. David is a Trustee on the School Charity, Destination Pond Meadow and also on Disability Africa, a small charity that's seeks to support young people with a disability in The Gambia.

 

Mrs Miranda Cooke - Staff Governor

Mira has taught at Pond Meadow School for 8 years, and alongside classroom teaching manages the 16-19 Phase.  She is responsible for development of the school's secondary-age curriculums, and enjoys opportunities to make use of her background in Fine Art within this.  Mira has also worked part time for the charity Challengers for 9 years, which has provided valuable experience complementing that of her teaching role.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Miss Laura Deal - Staff Governor

Laura joined the school in 2009 as a newly qualified teacher.  Working as a therapy assistant at a Special School in Hampshire after completing a music degree confirmed to her that teaching in this wonderful community was where she belonged.  Having spent a few years caring for children and young people with additional needs before coming into teaching, Laura revels in celebrating every achievement and milestone and feels very privileged to be able to do so.  Laura is a trained Music teacher and voice coach and enjoys teaching two choirs in Surrey.  She likes to bring music and the arts into all areas of the curriculum and believes in the huge benefits of music as a tool for communication.

 

 

 Mrs Sian Jones - Parent Governor

Sian spent 16 years managing IT in the banking sector, juggling multiple projects with multinational teams across assorted countries and time zones.  When flying to Eastern Europe every week didn’t fit well with parenting a child with disabilities, she spent the next few years applying her knowledge of complex bureaucracies to the NHS, Social Care and Education.  

Sian comes from a family of teachers and trainers so was delighted to become a parent governor when her daughter joined Pond Meadow in 2006.  She chairs the Children & Learning committee and led the Academy Conversion project in 2014.

 

Mr Jeff Alexander - Parent Governor

Appointed: 1st February 2015

Resigned: 21st October 2016

Jeff Alexander is married with two children, and father of a pupil in Kingfisher class. When not working in London insuring aircraft, he enjoys socialising, travelling and all sports. Jeff lives in Guildford and barring old rugby related injuries tries to stay fit by running and cycling.

 

Mr Grant Straker - Parent Governor

Grant is a Parent Governor at Pond Meadow Academy. His son joined the school when it was still at the old site; Grant says the move to the new building was a fantastic experience. Grant joined as a Governor so that he could find out more about how the school was run and make a contribution from a parent’s point of view. He is on the Buildings and Sites Committee, looking in particular at the Health and Safety policy. Grant says that his time as a Governor has really highlighted how passionate and committed the staff are to trying to ensure that all the children receive the highest level of input and encouragement to develop their independence and life skills. 

 

Mr Tapan Chavan - Parent Governor

Tapan comes from a family of social workers who have been instrumental in building and running free primary and secondary schools in rural parts of India.  Tapan has worked in IT for more than 20 years and currently runs an IT solutions company.  He lives in Woking and has a son in the Dragonfly class.

Tapan is delighted to become a parent governor because it not only allows him to contribute towards the community but also present a parent's perspective towards the initiatives that take Pond Meadow forward.

Mrs Tracy Moroney - Parent Governor

Appointed:  3rd January 2017

Committees:  Building and Sites

Tracy has a son in reception who moved up from Springboard.  She has set up and organised the school coffee morning group.  Tracy has have an older son with SEN in mainstream school, with a statement via appeal.  She volunteers for Surrey Family Voice and last month represented them at the SEN Ofsted meeting, in County Hall.

Tracy worked for 15 years in IBM as a computer programmer and has now taken a break from working to concentrate on navigating the SEND system, which has been challenging and confusing.

She believe that every child deserves to access education and reach their potential.

 

Mrs Julie Ogbeide - Clerk to the Governors

Julie joined the school in November 2000 as School Typist/Receptionist and in 2004 was promoted to Office Manager and also took on the role of Clerk to the Governors. 

She is also responsible for helping to organise the school events such as Meadowfest and the Christmas Fair.
